Campaign to Impeach Trump Now Has More Members than the NRA
If you are at all interested in politics and have not heard of Tom Steyer, then you must have been living under a rock for the last year. Steyer, a billionaire, launched a campaign to impeach President Trump one year ago, on October 20, 2017, and his campaign recently hit a new milestone.
The Need to Impeach campaign now has over 6,085,000 registered members, surpassing the due-paying membership of the National Rifle Association, which stands at approximately 5.5 million members. While comparing the number of email subscribers of an impeachment campaign to paying NRA members may be a bit like comparing apples to oranges, Steyer is still incredibly excited about this milestone.
“I think it’s different because I think that the way that the NRA really works is as much through the money that they spend directly trying to affect elect officials, and this group of people, what we’re really trying to do is to inspire people to get out and vote, to change elections by voting, not by giving money. So actually, we’re much more of a ground-up, grassroots organization,” Steyer told Newsweek.
Steyer has recently donated $10 million of his own money to help turn the House of Representatives blue on November 6th. Currently Democrats are favored to win back the house, but as we all saw in 2016, polls don’t always tell the truth.
“If we don’t flip the House in 2018, it’s a big failure. We’re going to have two more years of this, only worse,” Steyer said.
Steyer also says that the Need to Impeach Campaign is the largest member-to-member political campaign in American history. If you have not already joined the campaign, you may do so here.
