CA. Governor Gavin Newsom Endorses Joe Biden

With the Coronavirus whipping around the country, many of the nation’s governors have been afforded larger platforms. Lawmakers like Mike DeWine, Andrew Cuomo, Larry Hogan and Jay Inslee have drawn praise for the way they’ve worked to keep their constituents safe.

Another governor who’s been lauded for his actions in the time of the pandemic is California’s Gavin Newsom. On Friday night, Newsom made a move to help his party by endorsing Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Before Friday night, the California governor had thrown his support behind California Senator Kamala Harris. Newsom announced his plans to back Biden during a virtual fundraiser.

“I’m so honored to be here with you and supporting your presidency,” Newsom told Biden. “You get it, and you’ve gotten it done over the course of decades. You’ve been on the front lines of fighting against poverty, ignorance and disease. You have a deep compassion and empathy. You see the world from other people’s eyes.”

The governor continued, “You’re willing to reach out to people, never talk down to people. … That’s about character. It’s about decency. It’s about honor. And you’re ultimately about bringing people together and uniting this nation,” Newsom added. “We are desperate, in this moment in time, for that healing, for that leadership, that stewardship, that sense of hopefulness.”

Biden was very appreciative for the important endorsement. He told Newsom, “If I get elected, I’m going to need you badly.”
