Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has been added to the growing list of government figures who are profiting from the detention of migrant children who have been taken from their parents. Previously Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was accused of working with a non-profit group that is taking in immigrant children at taxpayer expense.
Rauner has allegedly taken a good chunk of change from a Healthcare group that is providing services to detention centers that hold immigrant families.
The healthcare group in question is Correct Care Solutions. The company provides services to hospitals, civil commitment centers, and correctional facilities. The company boasts having 11,000 professionals working in 38 states.
Correction Care Solutions has also been sued 140 times, and blamed for the deaths of numerous inmates. It was reported by The Daily Beast back in 2017 that a county in Georgia ended their contract with the healthcare group after five inmates died in 75 days.
Rauner claims to no longer has direct involvement with Correct Care Solutions. He claims that he relinquished all investment decisions to a third party. However, that is unlikely to soften the road to re-election in a Democratic state. The issue of immigrant children being separated from their parents is very much on the mind of voters, and it is unlikely that this issue will not be raised in the battle for governor in Illinois.
Gov. Rauner is already a very wealthy man with a reported $91 million in annual income according to his 2016 tax return.
Rauner is battling Democratic challenger J.B. Pritzker for Governor of Illinois in November.
