Brooke Shields Explained What Happened When She Turned Trump Down For a Date in the 90s

During a recent interview with the New York Times, actress Brooke Shields explained what happened when she turned down Donald Trump's request for a date back in the late 1990s.

Both Shields and Trump were wildly famous in the 1980s, but at that point, Trump was married to Ivanka Trump who he would soon cheat on with Marla Maples. But in the late 1990s, Trump had divorced Maples and Shields had ended her relationship with tennis star Andre Agassi. Shields relayed a story to the New York Times.

The actress says that she was filming a movie when she received a phone call out of the blue from the businessman. "You and I should date," he said. You’re America’s sweetheart, and I’m the world’s richest man. People will love it."

Shields recalls saying, "Thank you, I’m very flattered, but I have a boyfriend, and I don’t think he would appreciate me stepping out on him." Of course, a wounded Trump didn't let her off the hook that easy. He responded, "Well, I think you’re making a big mistake."

It is doubtful that Shields feels like she missed out on much of anything. She has been married to Chris Hinchy since 2001 and shares two children with the director. Trump, meanwhile, married his current wife Melania around the same time.
