A new poll from Fox News shows plummeting support for SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The poll was released following Dr. Christine Blasely Ford’s claim that Kavanaugh attempted to rape her during a high-school party in the 1980s.
Based on the polls numbers, only 40% of voters would confirm Kavanaugh while 50% oppose him. It appears, that more people believe Dr. Ford than are willing to take the word of Kavanaugh.
The same poll last month found that respondents were about split at 45-46 percent (August 19-21).
When asked specifically about the claims laid out by Dr. Ford, she was believed by a 6-point margin (36 vs. 30 percent). Approximately one-third of respondents said they didn’t know who to believe.
Taking only women into consideration, the support for Dr. Ford increased to a margin of 10 points. When suburban women were asked the same question the margin jumped to 17 points. Men side with Dr. Ford with a margin of just 1 point.
When college-educated voters were asked who they believe, Ford outpaced Kavanaugh by a 14-point margin. Respondents without a college degree believed Kavanaugh by a 17-point margin.
The Fox News poll also found that 59% of overall respondents agreed with delaying the Kavanaugh vote while 31% said a vote should occur immediately.
With Dr. Ford preparing to testify this week in front of the Judiciary Committee, it will be interesting to see how Kavanaugh’s support changes following her appearance.
