Donald Trump Sunday afternoon announced to his Twitter world that his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, has tested positive for the coronavirus. But rather than using one of the scientific terms for the disease, coronavirus or COVID-19, Trump went full racist, tweeting:
“@RudyGiuliani, by far the greatest mayor in the history of NYC, and who has been working tirelessly exposing the most corrupt election (by far!) in the history of the USA, has tested positive for the China Virus. Get better soon Rudy, we will carry on!!!”
It’s hardly surprising that Giuliani has tested positive, given the number of people he’s been in contact with and venues in which he’s appeared mask-less. Last week he was indoors in close proximity to legislators, “witnesses” and others in Michigan and Georgia in connection with his efforts to overturn the results of the presidential election, in which President-elect Joe Biden resoundingly defeated Trump.
It generally takes several days for a person’s body to build up enough viral load of the virus for a test to register positive. During that incubation period, however, the person carrying the virus still is contagious. Among those who potentially have been exposed to a virus-carrying Giuliani are attorney Jenna Ellis and disastrous Michigan witness Melissa Carone.
There’s no early word on whether the 76-year-old is experiencing symptoms. At his age he is considered in the high risk category for contracting the disease.
Giuliani appeared on Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures” Sunday morning and did not appear to be exhibiting any symptoms.
