States have been preparing for months for the Supreme Court to overturn the ruling that has allowed for safe and legal abortion in America. Now, according to a leaked draft obtained by Politico, it seems that day has come.
The initial draft majority opinion was written by Justice Samuel Alito and circulated inside the court, where it was obtained by Politico, which describes the draft opinion as “a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right.” In his opinion, Alito writes that “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.”
No opinion written by any judge anywhere has ever justified the government taking a role in a private individual medical procedure, yet it has been a galvanizing issue ever since Roe was legalized. The only roadblock to the opinion becoming a finalized ruling would be Chief Justice John Roberts, who has yet to make a firm stance regarding abortion rights.

This is an astonishing and devastating ruling for a country already divided over a person’s right to choose whether or not to carry a fetus to a point where it becomes viable enough to survive outside the uterus.

Each state will now be allowed to decide its own abortion rules, as we have already seen in Red states such as Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi. California, Oregon, and Washington are among the Blue states have already announced their intentions to be sanctuary states for people who may need to seek an abortion.
