[BREAKING] Pelosi Calls On Pence to Invoke 25th Amendment, Impeachment

Nancy Pelosi held a press briefing on Thursday afternoon to address the violence perpetrated by MAGA insurrectionists who overtook Capitol Police barriers to storm the Capitol Building. Police did almost nothing to contain the violence as the interlopers were filmed running rampant through the House and Senate, sitting at members’ desks, vandalizing government property, and taking selfies with officers. Egged on by Donald Trump’s dangerous rhetoric, his minions carried out actions they believed they were ordered to undertake in his name.

Today Pelosi called on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment, which would remove Trump from office immediately. Short of that, Pelosi said if Pence won’t act, the House is prepared to impeach Trump again and then vote for his removal, which would open him up to prosecution once his impeachment is finalized.

Pelosi also called on the Chief of the Capitol Police force to resign in light of video and photos showing officers abetting the violence, allowing armed agitators to roam freely and leave the premises without arrest. Police reported at least 53 arrests, which is a minuscule and fractious amount compared to the arrests they made during the Black Lives Matter protests.

“The president has committed an unspeakable assault on our nation and our people,” Pelosi said.

“I joined the Senate Democratic Leader in calling on the vice president to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th amendment. If the Vice President and cabinet do not, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment.”

An emergency session of both houses of Congress is expected to be called to discuss the next steps in removing Trump from office as soon as possible. A second impeachment would also prevent Trump from ever running for public office again.
