For the last several years the boogieman for those on the conspirator right has been billionaire Hungarian-American investor and philanthropist George Soros.
Soros who has donated over $18 billion of his personal wealth to many great causes over the years, mainly through his Open Society Foundation, is consistently the subject of wild conspiracy theories. In fact, two Republicans recently claimed that Soros was funding the migrant caravan coming up towards the United States from Honduras. These claims have no factual basis what-so-ever.
The New York Times is reporting that an explosive device was found in Soros’ mailbox yesterday afternoon by an employee at his home in Bedford, New York. The employee found the device in a box and quickly placed it in an area away from the home before calling authorities.
“An employee of the residence opened the package, revealing what appeared to be an explosive device,” the police said in a statement to the New York Times. “The employee placed the package in a wooded area and called the Bedford police.”
The bomb squad arrived shortly thereafter and detonated the device. Mr. Soros was not home at the time that the package was found and subsequently detonated.
The FBI is now conducting an extensive investigation into where the explosive device came from, and who may have sent it.
Soros, 88, continues to be a major force within the Democratic party, donating to candidates in both the Senate and the House in this year’s election. He has said in the past that he doesn’t “particularly want to be a Democrat,” but the extremism from the right forced him to become one.
