Since he came onto the political scene in 2015, Donald Trump has faced a regular stream of controversies. One of his biggest arose this week thanks to legendary journalist Bob Woodward. The former Washington Post reporter released a tape of Trump admitting that he had downplayed the seriousness of COVID-19.
Since the comments were recorded, the GOP and Conservative cable news pundits have had a difficult time spinning the situation. And it may get worse for Trump on Sunday night as Woodward is set to sit down with 60 Minutes’ Scott Pelley.
CBS has released an advanced clip from the interview. In the clip, Pelley asks, “Did the president ever disclose to you why he wasn’t telling the public what the stakes where with the coronavirus?”
“I think he did not understand the American public… We knew from history when the public is told the truth, they organize. ‘We have a problem, we’re going to step up.’ And Trump thought, ‘Oh, well, they’ll panic.’ When there’s a crisis, when the president particularly, they know something, it’s time to tel tell the public in some form. He failed.”
