We already brought you part one of our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Billy Joel, and now we’re back with part two! Check out eight more interesting facts about one of the world’s most beloved and recognizable musicians that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!
Number Eight: He Went to Woodstock. Joel was just 20 years old when he attended Woodstock, and he stayed for less than two days. He went to see Jimi Hendrix, but he was appalled by the state of the bathrooms. He said that he didn’t get laid, either.
Number Seven: He Is a Jokester. In an interview with Howard Stern, Joel said that he uses a throat spray called “The Entertainer’s Secret.” He went on to say that he once saw Ted Nugent use it, “…but it didn’t really make him sound any better, because he probably wasn’t spraying it up his a**.”
Number Six: He Notices the Details. In fact, he is so particular with his music that he says that there is an error in the original sheet music for “Just The Way You Are,” and when people play two chords at once in the one wrong spot, he points it out and tells them that they are wrong.
Number Five: He Has Regrets. The 66-year-old has said that he has some regrets in an interview with Howard Stern. Though he didn’t specify what exactly those regrets were, he said, “If you have no regrets, what kind of life did you have?” So true, Billy. So true.
Number Four: He Might Be Part of a Super Group. Joel admitted that he thinks it would be a fun idea to form a kind of super group with Don Henley, Sting, and one other guitarist.
Number Three: He Created “Angry Young Man” to Match a Drum Solo. Though many people tend not to think of a piano as a percussive instrument, it actually is. Joel wrote “Angry Young Man” to mimic the drum solo in The Safaris’ song, “Wipeout.”
Number Two: He Is Jewish and Attended Church Growing Up. Though Joel is Jewish, his mom began taking him to church when he was 11 years old. He even got baptized!
Number One: You Can Still See Him Perform! Joel may be 66 years old, but he is still performing all over. He currently has a residency at Madison Square Garden.
