Biden Explains Why he Will Not be Releasing a List of Supreme Court Candidates
Donald Trump released a list of potential Supreme Court candidates nearly a month ago. When he did, he couldn’t have imagined that he would have the opportunity to appoint one. The death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg gave some oxygen to Trump’s fading campaign.
In addition to releasing his own list, Trump and his surrogates have hit his opponent, Joe Biden, for not releasing one of his own. Over the weekend, Biden said that he will not be releasing a list and explained why.
Biden gave his explanation during a speech at Philadelphia’s Constitution Center on Sunday. He told the assembled crowd, “There’s a reason why no presidential candidate, other than Donald Trump has ever done such a thing. First, putting a judge’s name on lists like that could influence that person’s decision making as a judge. And that would be wrong.”
The Democratic nominee continued, “Second, anyone put in a list like that under these circumstances will be subject to unrelenting political attacks, because any nominee I would select would not get hearing until 2021 at the earliest.”
Biden then explained that he did not want his decision to be clouded by the looming election.
His opponent, though, thinks that this could be a good way to distract from his handling of the Coronavirus. The president’s campaign is also having severe financial problems.
