Bernie: Americans Must be Prepared for Trump to Falsely Claim Victory, Refuse to Leave Office
Donald Trump has consistently trailed in National polls. Donald Trump has consistently trailed in major swing state polls. The President is even having a tough time in states that were supposed to be layups for his like Texas, Goergia and Iowa.
Still, Trump is projecting that idea to his supporters that he will easily win the election. And he certainly won’t commit to accepting the results of a fair and free election. On Tuesday, Bernie Sanders warned that Americans have to be ready for Trump, upon a loss, refusing to leave office.
Sanders made the comments on Monday in advance of a speech he will be making on Thursday. “We are living in an unprecedented and dangerous moment — extremely dangerous moment — in American history,” he said. “And what this speech is going to be about is whether or not the United States of America will continue to be a democracy and a nation ruled by law and our Constitution.”
The Vermont senator continued, “If you are starting from zero on election night, and you’ve got hundreds of thousands or millions of absentee ballots, how long is that going to take you to count? It will take a very long time. And that will allow the fomenting of conspiracy theories and so-called fraud and everything else.”
Sanders closed his comments, “Right now, my main focus is to prevent Donald Trump from staying in office if he loses the election, to prevent him from delegitimizing the election results, to make sure that every vote cast is counted, to make sure that voters are not intimidated.”
