Ben Shapiro Defends Trump’s Racist ‘Chinese Virus’ Rhetoric On COVID-19

Right-wing pundit and Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro is stoking the fires of anti-Asian hatred when it comes to his commentary on COVID-19.

On his podcast, Shapiro defended President Donald Trump’s continued racist naming of coronavirus as the “Chinese Virus.” Such rhetoric has been shown to amp up hate against Asian Americans, but that matters not to Shapiro.

“He [Trump] is right about all this; everything he says here is true,” Shapiro said. “It is not racist, it is not culturally insensitive to point out that eating pangolins and bats has externalities and is a bad idea.”

This statement also adds fuel to the debunked theory that the original source of this pandemic was someone eating bat soup. Facts are crucial at a time like this, but right-wing pundits are simply using it to stir up their conspiratorial, hateful base.

Shapiro continued:

“China is responsible for all of this. This hasn’t stopped the media from, in their desperate hatred of Trump, trying to pretend that Trump is a racist for pointing out that China is responsible for all this.”

Ah, yes. It all comes back to hating on Trump for these people.

This is not about whether or not Trump is loved or hated. It is about facts, and the xenophobia running through the right-wing base that is making an already dismal situation much worse.

Shapiro even took it up a notch, concluding, “You want to call it the commie virus, I’m fine with that too.”

That just makes things much, much worse. Then again, the types who would listen to Ben Shapiro and take him seriously are likely already racists anyway.
