Barack Obama Accuses Donald Trump of ‘Suppressing the Vote’ in Crusade Against United States Postal Service

Former President Barack Obama slammed President Donald Trump’s blatant attempts to cripple the United States Postal Service in order to prevent mail-in voting in November’s presidential election.

Mail-in ballots are the safest option for millions of voters as the the coronavirus pandemic continues to rage.

“Everyone depends on the USPS. Seniors for their Social Security, veterans for their prescriptions, small businesses trying to keep their doors open. They can’t be collateral damage for an administration more concerned with suppressing the vote than suppressing a virus,” Obama tweeted on Friday.

The 44th president urged people to vote as early as they can to help keep things running smoothly.

“The more votes in early, the less likely you’re going to see a last minute crunch, both at polling places and in states where mail-in ballots are permitted,” he said. “Then tell everyone you know.”

With the aid of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, Trump has mounted an all-out crusade on mail-in voting and the USPS as a whole.

On Thursday, Trump went so far as to accuse the USPS of trying to rig the election.

“The whole thing with this mail-in ballot, that’s a rigged election waiting to happen,” Trump said on Mornings with Maria. “It’s rigged and everyone knows it… you can’t send 60 million ballots to everybody in the w… who knows who’s getting them. The mailmen are gonna get them. People are just gonna grab batches of them, and you’re talking about China and Russia, they’ll be grabbing plenty of them.”

He continued:

“It’s a disaster. It’s a rigged election waiting to happen, and it’s just common sense. You wouldn’t even have to know anything about politics or elections. It’s common sense.”

“These mail-in ballots… they send millions of them all over the country. It’s going to be a rigged election. The country shouldn’t allow it,” Trump seethed, before making a point to delegitimize the election.

“The courts have to step in, we’re in many different courts right now,” he said. “If the courts don’t step in, the federal courts, then you’ll never know who won the election.”

Trump votes by mail. He and First Lady Melania Trump requested their mail-in ballots in Florida on Tuesday.
