Barack Obama: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Barack Obama has been president of the United States since 2008, and soon, his second term will be up. Though our nation’s 44th president has spent a considerable amount of time in the spotlight, there are still some things about him that most people do not know. With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Barack Obama. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: He Had an Interesting Nickname in High School. In high school, Obama earned the nickname of “O’Bomber” because of his incredible skills at basketball.

Number Fourteen: His Name Has a Very Nice Meaning. The name “Barack” literally translates to “one who is blessed” in Swahili. We’re going to go ahead and agree with that one!

Number Thirteen: He Won a Grammy. Actually, he won two! Following in the footsteps of people like Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, Obama won a Grammy in 2006 for the audio of his memoir, titled Dreams From My Father. He won a second spoken word Grammy for his audio version of The Audacity of Hope as well.

Number Twelve: He Does Not Like Ice Cream. Obama actually worked at a Baskin-Robbins ice cream store when he was a teenager. As a result, he has a dislike for ice cream because of all of the time he spent around it.

Number Eleven: He Has Eaten Some Interesting Things. You might describe Obama as an “experimental” or “open-minded” eater. When he was living in Indonesia, he ate foods like roasted grasshopper, dog meat, and even snake meat. He truly tried to fit in with the locals, and we’re guessing he succeeded.

Number Ten: He Has Admitted to Using Drugs. Obama is far from perfect, and he’s not afraid to let you know about it, either. He has admitted that he used both marijuana and cocaine as a teenager. Though most people are not shy about admitting their marijuana use, it is not very common for a high-up politician to admit to having used cocaine.

Number Nine: He Has Great Taste in Music. Obama says his favorite musicians are Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, and The Fugees. Stay tuned for part two of this list, coming soon!
