Bags of Reportedly Stolen Money Totaling $600K Found Behind Toilet in Joel Osteen’s Megachurch Bathroom

A plumber says he found money in a wall of Joel Osteen‘s Lakewood megachurch in Houston, Texas, while he was doing work at the church a few weeks ago on November 10th. The news came to light during a local radio morning show on 100.3 The Bull.

Usually, someone would call the police first after discovering a grifter’s stash, but Texas.

HOUSTON, TX – SEPTEMBER 03: Joel Osteen, the pastor of Lakewood Church, stands with his wife, Victoria Osteen, as he conducts a service at his church as the city starts the process of rebuilding after severe flooding during Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey on September 3, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Pastor Osteen drew criticism after initially not opening the doors of his church to victims of Hurricane Harvey. “There was a loose toilet in the wall, and we removed the tile,” the caller told “Morning Bullpen” host George Lindsey. “We went to go remove the toilet, and I moved some insulation away and about 500 envelopes fell out of the wall, and I was like ‘Oh wow!’” The caller said the envelopes were full of cash and checks. I went ahead and contacted the maintenance supervisor that was there, and I turned it all in,” he added.

Lindsey said couldn’t believe what he heard. “We were like, ‘What are you talking about?’” Lindsey said to a local Houston TV news station. “So, then he relayed to us that in 2014 there was a big story about money being stolen from Lakewood Church that they never recovered.”

The Houston Police Department is still investigating the seven-year-old case involving the disappearance of $600,000. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were reported stolen in 2014 from a safe at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church but never recovered. It’s unclear exactly how much money the plumber discovered, but the case raises a lot of questions, like why did Osteen report the money he hid as “missing”? JK, it’s because he’s a criminal grifter who turned people in need away during Houston’s most devastating hurricane in years.

#TaxTheChurches was trending on Twitter on Friday as users dragged Osteen for setting yet another less-than-Christian example for his flock.
