As Texas COVID Cases Skyrocket, Pence Gushes over GOP Governor’s Response

For the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the northeast, particularly New York City was the epicenter. That fact has dramatically changed. New York and New Jersey are seeing very few new cases while the virus surges in the Southwest portion of the country.

This includes Texas, which has seen an incredible rise since Memorial Day. Mike Pence was in the state Sunday to discuss the effects of the pandemic. The Vice President gushed over Governor Greg Abbott’s leadership in the time of the crisis.

Pence told the assembled supporters, “Working with your governor, we will put the health of the people of the Lone Star State first, and every single day we’ll continue to reclaim our freedom and our way of life, as each day we are one day closer to the day we put this pandemic in the past. And when we do, with this governor and this president, we’ll bring Texas and America back bigger and better than ever before.”

The Vice President then turned his attention to Abbott. “I want to commend the governor for your decisive action reopening this economy.”

The Governor’s actions have been blamed by many for the surge in cases. Dr. Deborah Birx, also in Texas for the event basically alluded to this fact. “It was a very serious and safe opening plan, and you can see the impact of the opening plan and how it worked out.”
