Prior to him winning the Republican nomination in 2016, many Republicans were willing to stand up against Donald Trump. Once he won the nomination and the election, though, most of those GOP lawmakers clammed up. Lisa Murkowski was a notable exception.

The Alaska senator was often willing to speak out against Trump and go against his policies that she found distasteful. For her efforts, Trump has promised to try and get her out of office. The former president, however, will not have the support of GOP senator Dan Sullivan who promised to back his fellow Alaskan.
Trump released a statement earlier this month which read, “I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great state of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski. She represents her state badly and her country even worse.”

Sullivan was asked about those comments during an appearance on ABC’s This Week. He told host Jon Karl, “Sen. Murkowski was a strong supporter of mine and we won that reelection, very strongly. Look we don’t agree on everything, but we make a good team for Alaska,” he added. “If Sen. Murkowski runs again, I’m going to support her.”
