AOC Slams Buttigieg For Using GOP’s Paid College Talking Point

In an effort to highlight his differences from Warren and Sanders, the Indiana Mayor has criticized their plans to make college free for all. Sanders supporter and New York Congresswoman ripped Buttigieg for regurgitating what she said were Republican talking points.

In a recent campaign ad, Buttigieg said, “I believe we should move to make college affordable for everybody. There’s some voices saying, ‘Well, that doesn’t count unless you go even further, unless it’s free, even for the kids of millionaires.’ But I only want to make promises that we can keep.”

The spot, which targeted Iowa primary voters did not mention and of his opponents by name.

Ocasio-Cortez was quick to call out Buttigieg’s claim. She tweeted, “This is a GOP talking point used to dismantle public systems, & it’s sad to see a Dem candidate adopt it. Let’s talk about why Republicans are wrong on this. Just like rich kids can attend public school, they should be able to attend tuition-free public college.”

Entrepreneur Scott Menor was also critical of the plan. He tweeted to the candidate, “This is such a dumb argument. Millionaires and billionaires would pay much more into the system. They’re not getting anything «for free», nobody is subsidizing them. Pete is supposed to be smart enough to know that and if he is then he must think everybody else is a moron.”
