This week Derek Chauvin was convicted of murdering George Floyd. This decision is making one ex-Cop worry about the new trend of sending cops to prison.
It wasn’t all that hard for the jury to convict Chauvin. There was clear video of the officer kneeling on the neck of George Floyd for over 9 minutes. Chauvin will now spend most of the rest of his life in prison.
An anonymous ex Minnesota police officer who spoke to Insider doesn’t necessarily think that’s fair. “The jury got it wrong, I believe. But you gotta respect their decision.” He also noted that the jury was, “was under tremendous pressure to ‘make it right’ for George Floyd.”
With the crime being so obvious, the jury did not take much time to deliberate. The verdict was returned to the Judge just 11 hours after closing arguments. The former cop says, “When they came back that quick, I knew he was screwed. I knew it. I’ve never seen, in all my years of work, a jury come back that quick on such serious charges. Never.”
The officer ended his comments by lamenting what actual consequences for police brutality could mean in the future. “It’s the new trend now,” he said. “They’re sending cops to prison.”
