“America’s Dumbest Senator” Ron Johnson Running for Re-election

During the presidency of Donald Trump, Ron Johnson became a much more prominent senator. His reputation, however, didn’t grow for the right reasons. The Wisconsin Republican is regularly referred to by Joe Scarborough as “America’s Dumbest Senator.”

There were thoughts that Johnson may retire from the Senate rather than running again in 2022. But according to reports, the Republican will seek a third term later this year.

WISN 12 News’ Matt Smith reports that Johnson, “will seek re-election and is expected to make his official announcement in the coming days.”

This is good news for Democrats. Johnson is not very popular in Wisconsin, holding an approval rating of only 36%. Joe Biden won the midwestern state in 2020 by about 20,000 votes.

And Johnson has continued to dig himself a hole with his comments on the COVID-19 pandemic. During a radio interview this week, the Conservative lawmaker said, “Why do we think that we can create something better than God in terms of combatting disease? There are certain things we have to do, but we have just made so many assumptions, and it’s all pointed toward everybody getting a vaccine.”
