29-year-old, newly elected Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sure doesn’t act her age when it comes to debating and battling Republicans who are over twice as old as she is.
On Friday, during a speech she gave at a climate change event hosted by the Sunshine Movement, Ocasio-Cortez compared her victory and the victories of other progressive Democrats to the Moon landing.
“We’ve done what we thought was impossible,”Ocasio-Cortez told a crowd “We went to the moon. We electrified the nation. We established civil rights. We enfranchised the country. We dig deep, and we did it. We did it when no one else thought that we could. That’s what we did when so many of us won an election this year.”
Former Arkansas Governor and former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, however, didn’t like her comments for one reason or another, and on Sunday he attacked her via a tweet while calling her “looney” for making the remarks that she did.
“Ocasio-Cortez compares her election to moon landing,” said Huckabee. “Huh? Big difference. Moon landing was LUNAR, not LOONEY; Moon landing done by ppl who knew what they were doing…those who elected someone who thought there were 3 branches of Congress did NOT.”
Ocasio-Cortez fired back by defending her comments as well as telling Huckabee that his daughter, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, is better at lying than he is.
“A Green New Deal will take a level of ambition + innovation on the scale of the moon landing. We’ve been done it before, and can do it again. Leave the false statements to Sarah Huckabee. She’s much better at it. Also, you haven’t been a Governor of any state for 10+ years now.”
She then followed up with some additional clarifications, and general attacks directed at Republicans who have gone all out to attack her before she has even been sworn in as a United States Representative.
– GOP VP candidate (fmr)
– Sitting GOP US Senator
– GOP Governor (fmr)
– US Senator that killed the Public Option
– Entire Conservative Cable News Channel + YouTube universe
Have ALL gone after me, just to get lit up.
I’m not even sworn in yet. Don’t y’all have jobs to do?
