The Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr. is releasing a solo project entitled Momentary Masters on July 31st. In support of his new project, the guitarist will perform a few dates in the United Kingdom. Those dates include Oxford (England) at the O2 Academy 2 on November 2nd; Manchester (England) at the Gorilla on November 17th; Birmingham (England) at Hare and Hounds on November 19th; Leicester (England) at the O2 Academy 2 on November 20th; Glasgow (Scotland) at CCA on November 21st; Portsmouth (England) at Wedgewood Rooms on November 23rd; Bristol (England) at Fleece onNovember 24th; London (England) at Islington Assembly Hall on November 25th; and Brighton (England) at the Old Market on November 26th.
Momentary Masters marks Hammond’s third solo effort. His other two projects include Yours to Keep (2006) and Como Te Llama? (2008). Yours to Keep faired well in the US- reaching Number 2 on the Top Heatseekers, Number 11 on the Independent Albums, and Number 117 on the Billboard 200. It also impacted the albums chart in Sweden (Number 48), the UK (Number 74), and in France (Number 186). Como Te Llama? featured songs such as “Rocket,” “Victory at Monterey,” “Spooky Couch,” and “The Boss Americana.” The project also charted in the US, France, and the UK.
As a member of The Strokes, Hammond has dropped five studio albums including Is This It, Room on Fire, First Impressions of Earth, Angles, andComedown Machine. The band’s latest project, Comedown Machine, was released two years ago through RCA Records. The Strokes recorded the album because of their contractual agreement with RCA, and so the band chose not to promote Comedown Machine. Therefore, The Strokes did not do any television appearances, interviews, or shows. Even without any promotion, the project was ranked Number 41 on NME’s “Best 50 Albums of 2013.” “Fast Animals” was the only single dropped from Comedown Machine. It peaked at Number 29 on the Japan Hot 100, Number 38 on the US Alternative Songs chart, and Number 47 on the Hot Rock Songs chart. To date, The Strokes have sold over five million albums worldwide.
