Akron Native LeBron James Stands up for Goodyear After Trump Slams
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is from Akron, Ohio. He has always been fiercely proud of his hometown. James is fiercely charitable in Ohio and has sent countless children from the area to college.
Like James, Goodyear Tires also come from Akron, Ohio and have been built there for the last 121 years. The company employs tens of thousands of people from the town. James was recently asked about Donald Trump’s call for a boycott on the company and took the high road, talking about the importance of the tire company to his home town.
Trump is often willing to call for boycotts of American companies over the smallest slight. This can be a powerful call considering the massive platform he wields.
The President went after Goodyear on this week, tweeting, “Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES – They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS. Get better tires for far less! (This is what the Radical Left Democrats do. Two can play the same game, and we have to start playing it now!)”

James was asked about the comments following a game on Thursday. The Laker talked about his pride in the company without taking a direct shot at the President. “Not only has Goodyear been great for my city, for the history of my city, but for the country,” he said. “Unbelievable brand and unbelievable history. So, we stand strong, we always unite, especially my city.”
The athlete and activist continued, “We’ve always felt like we’ve been counted out, being a small city. And that’s what rallies us even more. It makes us even stronger.”
