Aides of Former President Refused to Let Him Meet With Embattled Congressman
Donald Trump certainly owes Matt Gaetz his unwavering support, but according to a report, his aides refused to let him meet with the Florida congressman.
While Donald Trump was on office, Matt Gaetz was willing to do just about anything protect him. The Florida congressman went as far as threatening Michael Cohen the day before the former Trump lawyer was set to speak to Congress.
And one could assume that Gaetz, now involved in a serious sex scandal, would like for the former president to return the favor. But according to CNN, Trump’s handlers would not allow the 45th president to meet with the Florida Rep.
Gabby Orr writes, “Two people familiar with the matter said Gaetz tried to schedule a visit with Trump after it was first revealed that he was being investigated, but the request was rejected by aides close to the former President.”
And while Gaetz may have not been able to meet with the former president, he still went directly to his turf. This weekend, the GOP lawmaker spoke at a Women for America First event that was held at Trump’s Doral Florida club. The report notes that people close to the ex-president, “were under the impression that Gaetz went down there to try and run into Trump or people around him.”
Trump spokesperson Jason Miller denied the report, writing, “CNN story is complete fake news. No such scheduling or meeting request was ever made, and therefore, it could never have been declined. Take note that this story has zero on-the-record sources. It’s literally made-up. We are demanding a full retraction.”
Gaetz also weighed in, tweeting, “This is a total lie. I am on a pre-planned vacation with my fiancée. I was welcomed at Trump Doral days ago. No such meeting was denied nor sought. Gabby, ‘unnamed sources’ lied. When can we expect a retraction?
