Adam Kinzinger Warns Against Supporting Republican National Committee With Donations

As much control as Donald Trump has over the Republican Party, it’s still a hard fact that not everyone who has supported conservative ideals also supports him. Now, the never-Trump and well-at-least-not-fully-Trump portions of the Republican voting base have to contend with the fact that supporting the party does help the former president. One particular Republican in Congress is trying to make sure that donors, too, are aware of what they’re supporting.

A CNN report this week covered payments that the Republican National Committee made to a law firm that was hired by the Trump Organization in response to an investigation into alleged illegal financial practices. To be clear, this is about allegations that Trump’s business has been breaking laws going back long before he ran for President of the United States — but the RNC is defending the payments by claiming that the investigation is “politically-motivated.”

Not everyone is happy about it, and Representative Adam Kinzinger shared the news on Twitter, warning his followers that when they receive messages from the RNC pleading for donations, they should take this into consideration before ponying up.

Kinzinger, who is not running for re-election, makes no secret of his distaste for Donald Trump’s hold over the party, and is one of two Republican members of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th attack.

The investigation in question has already moved forward with indictments against the Trump Organization and CFO Allen Weisselberg, and Trump’s former lawyer, who has been in meetings with investigators, predicts that there will be more indictments to come.
