ABC Reporter: Kayleigh McEnany has no Interest in Informing the Public
Reporter Jon Karl has a skill for getting under Donald Trump’s skin. The President went after him during an April press conference. “You’re a third-rate reporter and what you just said is a disgrace, OK,” he said. “You will never make it.”
Despite Trump’s dislike for him, Karl serves as the President of the White House Correspondents’ Association. On Sunday, Karl had a conversation with CNN’s Brian Stelter about the job Kayleigh McEnany is doing as Press Secretary. The ABC News reporter said that she is working more for Donald Trump than for the American people.
Karl explained McEnany’s role to Stelter, “Of course the press secretary serves at the pleasure of the president, but this is a different job. She’s not the spokesperson for a campaign, she’s not the spokesperson for a political party, she’s the spokesperson for the executive branch of the federal government of the United States. It is a different job, it is not a purely political job and those briefings have begun to look purely political.”
Karl closed his comments, “She has used those briefings over and over again to undermine the press, not inform the press. I hope she will change course. I am glad there are briefings, but I think those briefings, you know, shouldn’t be purely political stunts.”
