While most conservative outlets, even Fox News, have come to understand the seriousness of the COVID-19 epidemic, not all of them have. The news became more serious on Sunday when it was announced that Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) had contracted the virus.
There was some irony that Paul was diagnosed with coronavirus as he had voted against expanded leave for people suffering from the virus just days before. Paul’s father, Ron, former congressman and presidential candidate also made his thoughts about the epidemic known. On Monday, Ron Paul wrote an op-ed column where he accused immunologist Dr. Anthony Fauci, the “chief fearmonger of the Trump administration.”
Paul penned the column for the website, fitsnews.com. He began his column, “It is ironic to see the same Democrats who tried to impeach President Donald Trump last month for abuse of power demanding that the Administration grab more power and authority in the name of fighting a virus that thus far has killed less than 100 Americans.”
The father of the Kentucky senator continued, “The chief fearmonger of the Trump Administration is without a doubt Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health. Fauci is all over the media, serving up outright falsehoods to stir up even more panic. He testified to Congress that the death rate for the coronavirus is ten times that of the seasonal flu, a claim without any scientific basis.”
Paul has yet to comment on his son contracting the virus. You can read his entire column here.
