While Florida has become one of the global epicenters of the coronavirus, Ron DeSantis doesn’t seem to care. The Florida governor is acting like each case is isolated and the state hasn’t really been affected.

The reality is that the virus has been devastating in Florida and is impacting all aspects of society. Police officers in the state have been particularly hard hit. A total of 29 Florida officers have now died from the disease with thousands more out sick.

Axios reports, “Several of the 29 law enforcement officers in Florida that have died of COVID-19 were from around Tampa Bay.”

Christoper Broadhead, a 32 year-old unvaccinated officer from Polk Country recently succumbed to the illness. His boss, Polk County Police Chief Grady Judd admitted that the majority of his hospitalized officers have not gotten their shots. Judd continued, “Listen to the doctors, don’t listen to the politicians; get your vaccine. … If you didn’t have motivation before to get the vaccination, I hope that Christopher’s untimely death will give you the motivation.”

There are also many officers out sick with the virus crippling departments across the state. According to the report 50 Polk County officers are home sick and 100 Sarasota County officers are missing work.
